Firm partners Randy Sorrels and Benny Agosto, Jr. were recently interviewed on the State Bar of Texas podcast.
Randy Sorrels is the 2019-2020 President of the State Bar of Texas, and Benny Agosto, Jr. is the 2019-2020 President of the Houston Bar Association.
The topic of the interview was diversity in the legal profession.
Both attorneys expressed the importance of celebrating diversity within the legal community. The podcast covered bar leadership and diversity initiatives that are taking place within the Houston Bar Association and the State Bar of Texas.
According to Sorrels, diversity within the legal industry produces better outcomes – something he has seen first-hand.
Houston is the most diverse city. Yet the law profession is the least diverse of all professions. Sorrels and Agosto have personally devoted time and attention to increasing diversity to the practice of law and the Houston legal community.
The attorneys are working on several diversity initiatives, including the creation of diversity awards, honoring different groups of lawyers who have not been historically recognized in the past, and working through the State Bar to reach out to attorneys throughout the state of Texas.
Both Sorrels and Agosto discussed their military ties, and the fact that the two attorneys met at Houston Baptist University where they were once roommates. The attorneys have ties that go back decades, and now they practice at the same law firm and are both bar leaders.
