Investigation into Young Father's Death at Recycling Plant

In January of this year, the 26-year-old Byron Jones died when he fell into a tire shredder at Genan, Inc., a tire recycling plant in Sheldon, Texas. Genan, Inc. opened their Houston recycling plant in 2014; the company also has recycling plants in Germany and Denmark. According to the Genan, Inc. website, the Sheldon plant is the largest recycling facility in the world, taking in 100,000 metric tons of tires yearly.

Teenager Killed in Construction Accident

A 19-year-old female construction worker, Destiny Rodriguez, was killed Monday in a work-related accident in West Bexar County. The fatality was reported around 10:30 a.m. at a construction site in the 13700 block of Portranco Road, according to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.

Tank Battery Explosion Raises Safety Concerns for Oil and Gas Extraction

One worker has died and three remain injured as a result of a recent tank battery explosion in Mead, Colorado. The explosion occurred after the workers completed upgrades to the tank battery. A tank battery is a group of connected tanks that receive produced crude oil from a well. The owner, Anadarko Petroleum Corp., stated that the Mead facility was not in service at the time of the blast.

National Efforts to Prevent Deaths and Injuries of Roadway Workers Increased

As the infrastructure of our highways age, the need for construction and rebuilding of roads exposed to open traffic rises. In order to prevent delays during peak travel times, more roadwork is now being scheduled for nighttime. Additionally, urban areas are seeing an influx of newcomers, adding to traffic congestion. The exposure to increased oncoming traffic as well as decreased visibility for drivers at night heightens the risk of death and injury that roadside workers face.

Falls Are Leading Cause of Death in Construction Industry

Falls cause more deaths in construction than any other hazard, accounting for one-third of on-the-job injury deaths in the industry. Workers who are performing jobs 6 feet or higher on ladders, scaffolds, and roofs are at risk of falling and sustaining serious injuries or even death.

Equipment Crushes and Kills Oil Platform Worker in Brazoria

An oil platform worker was tragically killed this morning in Brazoria County when a pulley system lifting heavy equipment to the top of the platform failed, crushing the man underneath. The platform was located near Highway 35 and County Road 129 south of Pearland. It is not yet clear exactly how the system failed, but an investigation is being conducted.

Nineteen Year Old Woman Dies in Construction Accident in Bexar County

A 19 year-old woman died Monday, January 24, while working at a construction site in Bexar County, Texas. The accident happened along Potranco Road near Texas Research Parkway. Destiny Rodriguez was at the bottom of a fifteen foot hole when a backhoe operator dropped the digger into the hole, hitting and crushing her. She died at the scene. Rodriguez's brother was also working with her at the bottom of the hole, but he had just climbed out to get another pipe when Rodriguez was killed.

Granite Slab Crushes Worker

Just a few days after Christmas, when the Christmas spirit was still in the air, Northwest Houston suffered a tragedy. On December 29, 2016, a granite slab fell and crushed a worker killing him instantly. This shocking loss occurred at Vivaldi Stone in Northwest Houston inside Beltway 8. Vivaldi Stone has thirteen locations across Texas and New Mexico.

OSHA Safety Regulations Ignored as Injuries and Deaths Increase

Firm partner Benny Agosto, Jr. and firm attorney Jay Jackson, filed a new lawsuit on behalf of the wife and family of a worker who lost his life in an excavation/trench collapse earlier this year. The man's employer has been sued for gross negligence in the lawsuit filed by Mr. Agosto.
