Tragedy struck in Palestine, Texas on April 12, 2024, as Marco Sanchez, a beloved husband and father, lost his life when he was struck and killed by an alleged drunk driver while performing a mundane task – taking out the trash in front of his home.

According to reports from the Palestine Police Department, the fatal incident occurred after midnight on Friday night, at the 800 Block of Crockett Road. Driver Dillon Fogle has been charged with intoxicated manslaughter with a vehicle in connection with this incident. Investigation has revealed that Mr. Fogle veered into oncoming traffic before abruptly careening off the roadway.  Mr. Fogle exhibited signs of intoxication at the scene, including the distinct smell of alcohol emanating from his breath. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Mr. Sanchez leaves behind his wife and two young children, aged 8 and 2, who are now grappling with the loss of their cherished family member. Online fundraisers for Mr. Sanchez’s family describe a devoted family man who worked tirelessly to provide for his loved ones. This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of driving under the influence. A recent report by ForbesAdvisor revealed that 42.37% of all traffic deaths in Texas are caused by drunk drivers, and Texas is ranked the third worst state for drunk driving in the nation.
