Two-Car Crash Leaves One Dead, Child Critically Injured

Around 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 Denton police and rescue crews were called to the scene of a major crash near the 8400 block of West University Drive near Cottonwood Lane. The crash involved a pickup truck and a sedan, which were both traveling westbound.

According to the Denton Police Department’s preliminary investigation, the wreck occurred when the pickup truck collided with the Sedan, which then hit a utility pole. The pickup truck suffered damage to its front which was modest, whereas the Sedan was seriously damaged from being rear-ended. The westbound lanes of West U. Drive were closed for hours while first responders responded to the crash.

The Sedan had three occupants at the time of the wreck, including the driver, and all three were transported by rescue workers to a local hospital. A 28-year-old female passenger was pronounced dead at the hospital; a 10-year-old was transported to a regional hospital by rescue flight and is said to have critical injuries; and the 62-year-old female driver suffered minor-to-moderate injuries. The man driving the pickup truck was not injured.

Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the crash, but do not expect that either driver was intoxicated.
