A recall alert was issued on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission on March 2, 2023 relating to DR Power PRO XL501 Chipper Shredders. The recall involves about 2,100 units sold in the United States, in addition to 27 units sold in Canada and about 3 sold in Mexico.

The DR Power Chipper Shredders are normally used for yard and garden clean up. The recalled chipper shredders normally have an orange body, with a black motor on a black metal frame that has two wheels. The words DR and PROXL501 are printed on the motor. The motor numbers that have been recalled are CS35050BEN and CS35050BENR.

The recalled chipper shredders contain a fin scroll that can fail, ejecting pieces of metal from the chipper shredder hopper during operation, posing a laceration hazard. Customers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled chipper shredders. The company is contacting all known purchasers and automatically sending them a repair kit with installation instructions. Those not wishing to replace their chipper shredder may be directed to a servicing dealer to make the free repair for them, including transportation to and from the dealer.
