Deadly Railroad Explosion in Houston

The Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a deadly explosion that occurred on railroad tracks located near the 26500 block of East Hardy Road in Harris County, Texas. On November 5, 2022, at approximately 8:00 a.m., a Union Pacific employee working on a railroad line was killed in a gas explosion, according to officials from the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office and the Spring Fire Department. Crews were completing hot work and operating welding torches when a fuel gas was ignited, which caused a fire and blast.

Investigators explained one of the crew members was rushed to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The identity of the deceased male employee has not been released at this time. Investigations with the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office and Union Pacific are ongoing.
