Two Dead After Highway Crash in San Antonio

Two people are dead after a fatal accident that occurred just before 3 a.m. in late September 2022. The wreck occurred when a wrong-way driver crashed head-on with an 18-wheeler in San Antonio’s Westside. The driver and passenger who were in the vehicle that was going the wrong way are believed to have died at the scene.

Police said the fatal accident occurred in the lanes of the 2600 block of U.S. Highway 90 West, near Cupples Road; and that it was a white 4-door Nissan Altima that was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of the highway when the collision occurred.

The 18-wheeler driver told police that he was traveling in the middle lane, going the correct direction, when he noticed the Nissan Altima come over a hill, traveling the wrong way. Police said the 18-wheeler driver attempted to turn into the far left lane to avoid the Nissan Altima, when the driver of the Nissan Altima veered into that same lane, crashing into the 18-wheeler.

Both occupants of the Nissan Altima were pronounced dead on arrival by the San Antonio Fire Department.
