Ronald Mishna, an employee for The Home Depot, was tragically killed while operating a forklift in the early morning hours of May 13, 2022. The 39-year-old employee was using a forklift at The Home Depot when he was fatally struck by a pallet containing store merchandise. Despite the efforts of first responders and paramedics, Mr. Mishna succumbed to his injuries. At this time, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the tragic incident.

Unfortunately, workplace accidents involving forklifts happen more often than one would think. It is reported that annually upwards of 8,000 occupational workers are injured or killed in forklift-related incidents. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 70 – 90 people lose their lives every year in these occupational incidents involving forklifts.

The vast amount of forklift accidents in the workplace should be a concern to all companies that require their employees to operate these vehicles. Most of these incidents could have been prevented if companies would have implemented more strict and thorough training policies for their employees.
