Houston’s Increase in Deadly Car Crashes

The Texas Department of Transportation recently released statistics that indicate an increase in the number of deadly car crashes from 2020 to 2021. There was a 14 percent increase in fatal vehicle collisions in all of Texas. However, there was a 20 percent increase in traffic deaths in the city of Houston, which demonstrates how Houston’s rise in deadly car crashes is outpacing the rest of the state.

In 2021, Houston recorded the highest number of deadly car crashes of any city in Texas, surpassing the other four large cities in the state: San Antonio, Dallas, Fort Worth, and Austin. In 2022, so far, 60 individuals have passed away from vehicle collisions in Houston.   This trend in the rising number of fatalities in Texas and in Houston should be alarming to all Texas and Houston motorists.    With all the advances in vehicle safety, it is alarming that the number of fatalities is rising year over year.
