On March 27, 2022, a husband and wife were killed late Sunday while crossing Westheimer Road when a speeding BMW hit the couple in the roadway. According to authorities, the BMW was traveling nearly 70 miles per hour, double the 35-mph speed limit, when the vehicle hit the couple around 9:30 p.m. in the 6100 block of Westheimer and Potomac.

The suspected drunk driver Donovan Donte Harris has been charged with two counts of Intoxication Manslaughter by Harris County District Attorney’s Office. Harris remained at the scene and the authorities said that he did show signs of intoxication. Additionally, the police said there is video surveillance of the crash. The victims have been identified as 48-year-old Ann Best and 53-year-old Sederick Barrett.

“This is a dangerous stretch of roadway. I know the City of Houston is putting a lot of resources in this area to try and curb people speeding, but it is a pervasive problem,” said Sgt. David Rose. “We are expanding what limited resources we have to combat this, but the citizens of Houston have to help us in this. They have to slow down.”
