After 11 days at trial, a federal jury awarded those two veterans $110 million in damages against 3M as compensation for the permanent hearing loss they suffered as a result of 3M’s defective earplugs. The $110 million was comprised of $15 million in compensatory damages and $40 million in punitive damages being awarded to each of the veterans.
