Astroworld Tragedy strikes Houston

On November 5, 2021, ten young people lost their lives, and more than 300 others suffered traumatizing injuries on the opening night of the third-annual Astroworld Festival, a sold-out weekend music festival held at NRG Park in Houston, TX. The first night of the sold-out Astroworld Festival turned chaotic, as a deadly crowd surge occurred during event organizer and rapper Travis Scott’s headlining set.

More than 50,000 concert-goers were in attendance, many under the age of 18. Live Nation, the concert organizer, stopped the concert roughly 30 minutes earlier than planned, around 10:10 p.m. 40 minutes after city officials said the “mass casualty event” had begun.
