ElliptiGO Arc Bicycles Recalled Due to Reports of Defective Frames

The Consumer Product Safety Commission recently confirmed a recall of some ElliptiGO Arc Bicycles. The recalled ElliptiGo Arc Bicycles are specialty bicycles that operate by having its user stand up, which delivers an “effective cardio workout” and “low impact” to the user’s joints.

The recall is due to the tendency of some units of these bicycles to break apart on the frame while riding, posing fall and injury hazards to the user. The following models are being recalled by the manufacturer: ElliptiGO Arc 3, ElliptiGO Arc 8, and ElliptiGO Arc 24. The Arc 3 model has three gears, the Arc 8 model has eight gears, and the Arc 24 model has 24 gears.

The recalled models are composed of an aluminum frame with the manufacturer’s logo, as well as the word “Arc” displayed on each side of the frame. The CPSC has advised consumers to immediately stop using the recalled ElliptiGO Arc bicycles and to contact ElliptiGO Inc. for a replacement bike, credit, or refund. The recall came about after ElliptiGO received 12 reports of broken frames and 11 reports of cracked frames. Six people were injured with a combination of lacerations, abrasions, road rashes, and broken helmets.

The defective units were sold in specialty bicycles and fitness stores nationwide and online at www.elliptigo.com and amazon.com from November 2015 through December 2020 for anywhere between $500 and $1,500. Around 3,800 units were sold in the United States, while 31 were sold in Canada.
