$880,000 Wrongful Death Settlement

Firm attorneys Brant Stogner and Lena Laurenzo have obtained a large settlement in a lawsuit against two trucking companies, 2006766 Alberta, Inc. and Black Deer Transport, Inc.

On July 27, 2019, an 80-year-old mother was riding in her adult daughter’s sedan on the way to a funeral. They were traveling in East Texas, heading north on US-59 when an 18-wheeler suddenly and without warning smashed in the rear of the sedan. Both women in the sedan were tragically killed and pronounced dead at the scene.

Ms. Bryan’s surviving daughter hired Brant Stogner to help her understand the loss of her mother and to investigate why this double-fatality crash happened. Brant and Lena went right to work investigating this crash, which included retaining experts, inspecting the 18-wheeler, and obtaining crucial evidence from the truck driver and trucking companies.

The team took the depositions of the truck driver and both trucking company corporate representatives. It became clear to Brant and Lena that there were serious safety concerns with respect to the truck driver and the two companies and that this crash could have been avoided numerous ways.

Soon after the depositions, the case settled for full policy limits held by the Canadian insurance company for these trucking companies. Brant and Lena were honored to be able to recover the maximum amount possible for the estate of the deceased mother and her daughter.
