Southeast Texas Man Sues for $10 Million After Oil Rig Explosion

A Southeast Texas man, Brandon Fregia, is suing Jeffcoat Production and SETX Oilfield Services after suffering second and third-degree burns across the entire upper half of his body in an oil rig explosion. The explosion occurred in Jasper County, Texas, on County Road 607 between Kirbyville and Buna on August 9, 2019.

At the time of the explosion, Fregia was performing “workover” maintenance on the well site. The workover maintenance required the use of a water tank; however, the defendants delivered and placed the water tank dangerously close to the oil well, leading to the explosion. Following its investigation, the Texas Railroad Commission cited this total failure to follow safety procedures as causing or contributing to the explosion. This incident provides a prime example of why Texas leads the nation in serious workplace injuries and deaths.
