Philips Hue Recall: Outdoor Lights May Pose Electrocution Risk

Photo of Muhammad Aziz

The lighting company behind Philips Hue is recalling the power supply units associated with several of its outdoor lights and fixtures. The recall was issued for certain 40 Watt outdoor power units made prior to October of 2019. The company discovered that water leakage may cause the units to short-circuit, which could pose a shock risk if the units were touched in wet conditions. Power units supplied with the following Philips Hue lights are subject to the recall: Lily and Lily XL spotlights, Calla and Calla Large pedestal lights, Econic pedestal lights, and Impress pedestal lights.

Between 2018 and 2020, approximately 21,000 defective units were sold in the United States. Individuals should be sure to unplug the power supply unit before checking the label or otherwise performing a safety check. Waterproofing a product such as this is essential; and any device that is affected by the company's waterproofing failure should be replaced to prevent injuries caused by electric shock.

If you or someone you know has been injured as a result of an electrocution caused by a faulty product, please contact an attorney at Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Sorrels, Agosto, Aziz & Stogner, by calling 713-396-3964 or toll free at 1-800-594-4884.
