Polaris Recalls Nearly 30,000 of Its Vehicles Due to Crash Hazard

American manufacturer, Polaris Industries Inc., has issued a recall that affects nearly 30,000 of its off-road vehicles sold nationwide from November 2017 through March 2020.

The first recall affects its Ranger and General Utility vehicles sold June 2018 through March 2020. In a released statement, the call back stems from a software issue that can cause the throttle to fail to return to the idle position after the engine stalls and is restarted in gear without switching the key to the off position. Consequently, this defect can lead to the vehicle suddenly accelerating, posing a serious crash hazard to the consumer.

With over 26,730 units identified, Polaris recommends the immediate discontinued use of the following:

The vehicles were sold in gray, blue, white, red, green camo, orange, sand, and maroon colors and have two or four seat configurations. "POLARIS" is stamped on the front grille, and "Ranger" or "General" is printed on the sides of the rear cargo area. The Vehicle identification numbers (VIN) included in this recall can be found stamped into the left rear vehicle frame below the cargo box.

In a second recall, the company called back about 2,800 units of its Phoenix 200 All-Terrain Vehicles ATVs. The affected lot is said to pose a crash hazard due to the potential for damage to occur to the throttle lever stop during shipping. The Phoenix 200 vehicles were sold at Polaris dealers from November 2017 through April 2020 in the color gray. The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is located on the vehicle's front left frame and has been listed for reference.
