Crash Hazards Continue to Plague Polaris

According to figures documented by Consumer Federation of America, there have been 110 Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) recalls over the past ten years, and the number of recalls has increased steadily. Estimates reveal that nearly one and a half million OHVs were sold and subsequently recalled for hazards.

Of the 19 brands identified in the recall notices, American manufacturer Polaris ranked number one. Between January 1, 2010 and February 3, 2020, the manufacturer issued 40 recalls for various reasons, including fire hazards. In the latest recall issued July 22, 2020, Polaris has identified 13,200 of its vehicles equipped with an improperly manufactured clutch component that can cause the engine braking feature to fail, resulting in unexpected vehicle motion, posing a serious crash hazard for consumers.

Due to the risk of serious injury, Polaris has recommended that consumers immediately discontinue use of the following Polaris OHVs:

PRO XD 4000D

PRO XD 4000D

Ranger XP 1000

Ranger XP 1000 Crew

Bobcat UV34

Bobcat UV34XL

The affected units were sold nationwide at Polaris dealers from September 2019 through April 2020 in maroon, black, sand, green, orange, blue, camo, gray, and white and have two or four-seat configurations. For PRO XD and Ranger models, "POLARIS" is stamped on the front grille, and "POLARIS PRO XD" or "Ranger" is printed on the sides of the rear cargo area. For Bobcat models, "Bobcat" is printed on the sides of the rear cargo area.
