TBI's: The Invisible-Injury That Is Very Real

When someone breaks an arm or a leg, it is easy to see the cast (perhaps signed by well-wishers), the crutches (hopefully padded), and the basic difficulties experienced by the person in trying to walk or grasp things as they once did. But there are common injuries that do not always have such outwardly visible characteristics. Yet their existence is just as, if not more so, real for those who experience them.

Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI's) are an all too common example of this sort of "invisible injury." Caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head that disrupts the normal functioning of the brain, a person may look fine, walk fine, grasp things fine, yet be anything but fine beyond the first glance.

Recent statistics released by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) estimate that almost 155 people in the United States die each day from injures that include a TBI. Common effects of TBI's are impairment in thinking or memory, movement, vision, hearing, or emotional functioning.

The CDC reports falls as the leading cause of TBI's followed by motor vehicle accidents. Workers involved in refinery explosions and plant explosions also may experience trauma that can result in TBI's.

In cases involving TBI's, it is important to have the best medical experts to better help people understand the effects of these very real injuries.

If you have suffered a traumatic brain injury because of another's negligence, contact an attorney at Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Sorrels, Agosto, Aziz & Stogner by calling 713-396-3964 or toll free at 1-800-594-4884.
