FCA Recalls over 180,000 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 Pickups for Power Steering Defect

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles issued a recall for over 180,000 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 pickups to repair an issue related to the trucks’ power steering system. The defect in the power steering makes the vehicle more difficult to steer and increases the risk of a crash.

The defect arose during the manufacturing process for 2019 models manufactured before October 25, 2018. A fastener that grounds the battery was not properly secured, as required during assembly of the truck. As a result, the connection may become loose enough to intermittently create an open circuit, or fully detach, which disables the power steering in the process. At the time the defect was identified, over one-third of the affected vehicles were sitting on dealership lots.

The firm currently represents a client who was involved in an incident with a brand-new Dodge Ram 1500 where the vehicle did not steer as intended and an issue with the power steering was discovered afterwards by the dealership.
