Working from Home

For many of us, the coronavirus has interrupted our daily activities and is affecting our ability to work. The law firm of Abraham Watkins remains open and working hard to represent our clients. However, many of us are working from home in order to stay safe and healthy. We suggest you do the same.

Faced with having to stay home as a precaution to limit exposure to the coronavirus, many people are adjusting to working from home for the first time. A recent article in the Houston Chronicle about the best cope with the coronavirus explained some pointers to best achieve working from home. I wanted to share those with you.

Here are a few things I learned from the article.

Prepare. If you have never worked from home, start by getting organized and making sure you have office supplies, as well as the appropriate apps on your computer. (Zoom and GoToMeeting as examples)

Dedicate space. It is best that you do not work from your couch or your bed. Set up a space in your home just for working. Make sure you have a comfortable and reliable chair but make sure to stand up often. Sitting all day will cause additional health problems. This will be good both for your body and your mind.

Beef up your Wi-Fi. Make sure that you have reliable Wi-Fi connections. When working with video presentations or downloading large files, an inadequate Wi-Fi connection will cause much frustration. Consider upgrading to a faster Internet tier that may give you better upload speeds.

Check in often. When you work from home, you will have to be disciplined, as you will likely have many distractions. In order to have maximum productivity, it is advised that you check in often with your supervisors and co-workers. This will keep everybody on the same page and avoid miscommunications.

The law firm of Abraham Watkins is here for you. We pray that everyone stays healthy and safe.
