Family of Walmart Employee Who Died from COVID-19 Files Suit

Wando Evans, 51, died on March 25, 2020, from complications of COVID-19. He was a 15-year employee of Walmart and worked as an overnight stock and maintenance associate. Days later, on March 29, 2020, another employee who worked at the same Walmart died from COVID-19.

The family of Wando Evans recently filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Walmart. The lawsuit alleges that Walmart knew that Evans and other employees, from the Walmart store where he worked, were experiencing symptoms but Walmart failed to respond and required the employees to keep working. Ultimately, Walmart sent Evans home from work on March 23 and he was found dead in his home two days later.

The lawsuit also alleges Walmart was negligent because it did not adequately clean the store, enforce social distancing, notify employees about colleagues who were showing coronavirus symptoms, and provide protective gear, such as gloves and masks.
