Infant Sleepers Recalled Because of Risk of Suffocation

Graco, Summer Infant, Evenflo, and Delta Children are recalling more than 165,000 infant sleepers because they pose a risk for suffocation for babies. The recall notices posted on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website state, "Infant fatalities have been reported with other manufacturers' inclined sleep products, after the infants rolled from their back to their stomach or side, or under other circumstances." Parents are advised to immediately stop using the products and to contact the companies for refunds. There have not been any reported deaths related to the newly recalled products; however, at least 73 infant deaths have been linked with the inclined infant category.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends for safe sleeping, parents put infants to sleep on their backs on a firm, flat surface in a bare crib, play yard or bassinet. Inclined sleepers are in direct conflict with that recommendation. According to the U.S. PIRG Education Fund Consumer Watchdog's statement, "For years, we've known that inclined sleepers threaten babies' lives, and tragically, the evidence keeps piling up...Parents and caregivers should stop using any kind of inclined infant sleeper immediately, even if it hasn't been included in a recall. All versions of these products put your baby's life at risk."

When someone is injured or dies as a result of another's negligent act, financial recovery may be available. Such recovery is particularly important when permanent, life changing injuries are incurred. It is important to contact someone who understands the intricacies of the injured party's right to recover.

Abraham Watkins offers a free consultation to anyone wishing to pursue a claim for injuries that occurred as a result of another's negligence.
