General Motors Recalls More Than 650,000 Trucks and SUVs Due to Malfunctioning Brakes

General Motors is recalling more than 650,000 trucks and SUVs because a software error can activate these vehicles’ brake systems, leading to car accidents. This recall covers the 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2015-2020 Chevrolet Suburban, 2015-2020 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2014-2018 GMC Sierra 1500, and 2015-2020 GMC Yukon models. In total, the problem is estimated to affect approximately 638,000 GM vehicles.

The activation of the braking system is triggered by the failure of a wheel-speed sensor, causing unintended braking on the wheel opposite to that with the failed senor. This causes the vehicle to pull suddenly and sharply to one side, resulting in an increased risk of car crash. Given the size of the affected vehicles and sheer number of them on the roadways, this is a potentially fatal situation that must not be ignored. If you own or lease one of the recalled vehicle, you should contact the dealership immediately to have the repairs made.
