Top 5 Safe Driving Apps

With cell phones increasingly becoming a tempting enemy to safe driving, many states-Texas included-have adopted hands-free laws banning their use behind the wheel.

While distracted driving should be avoided at all costs, in some cases, cell phone apps can actually help keep drivers safe and focused on the road. Today, we are going to explore 5 of those apps.

Each of the following apps is available for iPhone and Android. Some require a monthly or yearly subscription fee and others are free to download.

  • Zoomsafer. Originally designed for small businesses and now used by families across the country, Zoomsafer restricts access to email, browsing, texting and calling while driving. Zoomsafer reduces the temptation to drive distracted by removing the option.
  • Pro. Pro reads texts and emails aloud and, without requiring you to touch your phone, the app sends an automated response that you are driving at the moment. With Pro, adults and teens can stay connected and communicate, while still abiding by hands-free laws and paying attention to the road.
  • Steer Clear. Great for parents of new drivers, Steer Clear teaches proper driving techniques and logs mileage and habits for later review (either by the driving or the parent).
  • Lifesaver. With a combination of GPS monitoring and restricting cell phone use, Lifesaver allows parents to track and reward teens with good driving habits. It also notifies family members when the driver reaches their destination safely, which is a helpful feature for many worried parents.
  • iOnRoad. This unique app uses augmented reality to notify a driver of dangers on the road. For example, if you get too close to the car in front of you, this app sends an audible alert to your phone to get your attention. iOnRoad can also block incoming calls and messages.

Cell phone technology does not have to be the enemy, if it used smartly. Make the best choices possible when you drive.

Hopefully you'll never need a personal injury attorney due to an accident caused by distracted driving. If, however, the unexpected happens and you are involved in an accident, reach out to a lawyer from Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Sorrels, Agosto, Aziz & Stogner by calling 713-396-3964.
