Chrysler Recalls Additional 693,000 Vehicles

Recently, Chrysler announced they would be recalling an additional 693,000 trucks due to issues with the tailgates. Some of the recalled tailgates potentially can open on their own during transit. The recall includes Ram Models 1500, 2500, and 3500 manufactured in 2013 and 2014.

The danger created from the tailgate malfunctioning is that unsecured loads may be ejected onto the highway, potentially causing both injuries to motorists and property damage. The recall comes after 127 warranty repairs were made related to the same tailgate issue. Currently, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles claims that they are “unaware of any related injuries or accidents associated with either vehicle population.”

Prior to the current recall, in 2018 Chrysler recalled 1.1 million trucks for the same issue. Approximately one third of the vehicles affected have been serviced so far according to Chrysler. Originally, the recall only covered 2015 to 2017 models. Currently, Chrysler dealerships are reported to be conducting the tailgate repairs free of charge.
