Defective Earplugs And Hearing Damage

For members of military, the use of earplugs during service or deployment is critical.

Aearo Technologies, which was acquired by 3M, manufactured the dual-ended Combat Arms™ earplugs that were issued to U.S. military members between the years of 2003 and 2015.

The earplugs were supposed to block out all sound if worn in one direction, and block out louder sounds only if worn the other way.

Unfortunately, the earplugs did not work as promised. In fact, the defective design exposed many military members to loud noises that caused permanent hearing damage.

Hearing Problems Associated With The Defective Earplugs

The defective earplugs manufactured by 3M can cause ear damage such as hearing loss, tinnitus, and loss of balance.

Tinnitus is the most common disability reported by veterans. It is a condition in which the victim hears ringing or buzzing noises, despite there being no external noise. And unfortunately, it cannot be cured.

Hearing damage can have psychological effects, as well. Hearing problems can lead to depression, anxiety, and poor job performance. Some victims have even reported having suicidal thoughts.

Have You Suffered Hearing Loss Or Tinnitus?
