At least one child is dead and several other people injured in a horrific 18-wheeler wreck on Highway 290 in Houston
On Friday, December 7, 2018 an 18-wheeler truck was barreling towards a Kia Optima traveling on Highway 290 at the Grand Parkway. According to law enforcement, the driver of this 18-wheeler became distracted by something in his truck, didn’t have a chance to hit his brakes, and slammed into the back of that Kia. The force of this impact was so severe that when the 18-wheeler struck the back of the Kia, the enormous weigh of the 18-wheeler crushed the back end of the Kia, crumpling the car from the rear bumper up into the front passenger area, instantly killing the child riding in the back seat of the Kia. The deceased child’s mother and sister were also in the car. They were both transported by LifeFlight to Memorial Hermann Hospital.
Authorities have said that the truck driver will be given a blood test and no charges have been filed at this time.
One thing Houston is notorious for is its traffic. As the population in Harris County has skyrocketed over the years, so has the number of drivers using the city’s freeways. Unfortunately, this increased number of drivers has brought with it an increase in the number of motor vehicle accidents.
