Man Settles Universal Lawsuit After Harry Potter Ride Malfunctioned

In November 2015, Tommy Fry was a passenger on the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride at Universal’s Islands of Adventure in Florida. Unfortunately, the ride got stuck and Mr. Fry was left hanging upside down for an hour. He filed suit in March 2017 for an unspecified amount of damages.

According to his petition, Mr. Fry and his two young sons were riding the attraction when the ride malfunctioned and they were left stuck in mid-air. The suit went on to detail that Mr. Fry “was trapped in his seat, upside down and unable to free himself from his seat for almost one hour.” Mr. Fry’s attorney detailed, “The ride does not go upside down, but the seats will be at angles at times…Sometimes, you’ll be facing downwards and sometimes you’ll be facing upwards.”

Mr. Fry’s claims included injury and mental anguish over the incident. The claims were ultimately amicably resolved for a confidential settlement. The Harry Potter and Forbidden Journey attraction opened in 2010 and features famous scenes from the Harry Potter series; it is popular amongst park-goers.
