Severe 18-Wheeler Wreck on I-45

On April 23, 2018 during the early morning rush hour, an 18 wheeler hauling household trash on I-45 burst into flames after swerving to avoid an accident on the highway.

Reports say the incident began when a pickup truck had a flat tire. The resulting slowdown caused a seven car pile-up. The 18-wheeler swerved to avoid the wreck and lost control. The big rig flipped on its side and the trash in the trailer burst into flames.

The truck blocked all main lanes of traffic and the express lane after the cab itself went through the concrete barrier separating the main lanes from the express lane. The driver was partially ejected and pinned under the truck. Luckily, a Houston police officer was able to pull him out of the burning cab.

The highway was shut down for hours as firefighters battled the flames which towered up to 60 plus feet at times. Accidents such as this one make clear that one never knows when something as insignificant as a flat tire can result in a catastrophic incident. Luckily, no one was injured in this wreck, but people are injured in car wrecks every day.
