Fatal 18-Wheeler Collision in Houston

Last Friday night in Houston, an 8-year old boy was killed in a wreck around 5:40 p.m. on the inbound lanes of Highway 290 at the Grand Parkway. The child was a passenger in a Kia Optima that was crushed by an 18-wheeler.

According to officers, the truck driver was distracted by something in his truck, didn’t have a chance to hit his breaks, and slammed into the back of that Kia. The boy’s mother and sister were also in the car. They were transported by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital.

The crash caused a chain reaction. The Kia hit a Ford F-150, which then hit a Toyota Camry. Those drivers were also transported to the hospital.

These kinds of accidents are all too common on the highways in Houston. The drivers of 18-wheeler trucks have a duty to drive carefully. Their size and weight turn any impact with a passenger vehicle into a potentially lethal event. And, as here, accidents with 18-wheelers tend to affect more than just one vehicle.
