Top 10 Most Dangerous Roads for Truckers

Fleet Management Company Zonar, compiled a list of the most dangerous sections of roads before the holiday season. During the holiday season, there is an average increase of 36% in highway traffic. Some of the highways which already have a high danger rating due to the sheer number of crashes and fatalities by volume, like “US-1” for instance can become dramatically more dangerous during the holidays.

Already dangerous roads combined holiday increases in traffic, and potentially poor weather conditions create an abnormally high degree of risk for trucking accidents. By accident volume from the Department of Transportation’s 2013 to 2016 statistics, the most dangerous highway sections during the holiday season are:

I-10

Alabama

I-95

Florida

HWY-75

Idaho

I-40

Arkansas

US-1

Florida

M-20

Michigan

I-80

Border of Nebraska and Colorado

HWY-5

Colorado

I-70

Maryland

SC-35

South Carolina

Although no section of the major interstate highways passing through Texas made the top ten lists created by Zonar, in terms of holiday accidents, other roads such as Texas’ U.S. Highway 83 consistently makes the top five national lists for crash fatalities. Highway 83 runs from the southern tip of the valley 893 miles to northern tip of the panhandle and has an astonishingly high danger rating of 2.0, with an average of 26 fatalities annually. Highway 83 is considered the second most dangerous in the nation by fatal crashes and fifth in overall crashes. The danger rating is evaluated by the volume of daily traffic, compared to the number of fatalities and crashes.
