Dodge Trucks Recalled for Fire Hazard

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles announced that it is recalling 494,000 medium and heavy-duty Ram trucks as a result of a water pump concern that could cause a fire. This recall affects 2013-2017 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups and 3500, 4500, and 5500 chassis cabs.

This hazard was discovered following a Fiat Chrysler Automobiles United States investigation addressing customer feedback concerns. The investigation uncovered that some trucks are equipped with a water pump that may overheat and cause fire once it is exposed to certain conditions. The company noted that hazardous water pumps may activate a warning light in an affected vehicle’s instrument cluster. Therefore, customers are urged to consult their dealers if they notice such warning lights.

A spokesperson for the company indicated that regulatory definition for potential fire includes everything from a burning odor to open flame. The company has knowledge of a small number of related incidents, very few of which include damage and none of which was within immediate proximity of the water pump.

The company noted that there have been no reported injuries or accidents related to the issue. However, it no longer equips vehicles with the water pump at issue. Customers who are affected by this recall will be advised when service is available but can contact Fiat Chrysler Automobiles United States for more information.
