Equipment Crushes and Kills Oil Platform Worker in Brazoria

An oil platform worker was tragically killed this morning in Brazoria County when a pulley system lifting heavy equipment to the top of the platform failed, crushing the man underneath. The platform was located near Highway 35 and County Road 129 south of Pearland. It is not yet clear exactly how the system failed, but an investigation is being conducted.

The high complexity and immense size of oil machinery presents serious risks of injury or death to the hundreds of thousands of energy workers who spend their days helping provide energy for our homes, our vehicles, and our cities. A situation such as the accident earlier today can have multiple causes, including faulty machinery, improper safety procedures, improper maintenance, lack of proper instructions and/or supervision.
