Our celebration of 2016 National Hispanic Heritage Month

The law firm of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Agosto, Aziz & Stogner is proud to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month which kicked off September 15 and runs through October 15. This is a special time to celebrate the culture and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans. As a city with a large Latino population, Houston kicked off the celebration with the annual Fiestas Patrias parade. For more information on events in the Houston area in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, please visit www.hispanichouston.com.

The celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month started in 1968 when President Lyndon B. Johnson introduced Hispanic Heritage Week, which was then extended by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to a month. The beginning date coincides with the Independence Day for five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico celebrates independence on September 16, and Chile on September 18.

As a firm committed to diversity, Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Agosto, Aziz & Stogner annually sponsors organizations and events benefitting the Hispanic community such as the Hispanic National Bar Association’s Legal Education Fund and the Mexican American Bar Association of Texas Foundation’s Scholarship Luncheon.
