Harris County Attorney Ryan’s Team Members Named to Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee in VW Lawsuit

Members of Harris County Attorney Vince Ryan’s litigation team, including Abraham Watkins’ own Benny Agosto, Jr., (working alongside firm partner Mo Aziz), has been named to the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee in the air pollution lawsuit against Volkswagen for fraudulently manipulating emission controls in its vehicles.

Houston attorney Richard Mithoff, a veteran of multiple cases of multi-district litigation, was named Lead Counsel for the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee. Agosto and Earnest Wotring of Baker Wotring LLP as members of Ryan’s team were also named by Judge Tim Sulak of Travis County 133rd District to represent the TCAA County Plaintiffs, due to their expertise in complex litigation and environmental issues.

Judge Sulak was named last month by the Texas Supreme Court to be in charge of multi-district litigation for the scores of government and consumer suits filed against Volkswagen connected to the admitted falsification of contaminate emission data from VW’s diesel cars. Ryan first filed suit in September 2015, seeking to penalize Volkswagen Group of America for the estimated 6,000 diesel vehicles sold in the county. As one of the first county teams to file suit against the company, these leadership positions will allow Ryan’s Harris County team to remain in the driver’s seat for this litigation and compensate Texas victims in an efficient manner.
