Multiple Bus Crashes

Today's news brings reports of multiple bus crashes.

One wreck involved a school bus in the Houston area. It was involved in a one-vehicle rollover shortly before dawn on Tuesday morning near the intersection of the South Loop 610 and Highway 288. It snarled rush hour traffic, which was already coping with heavy rains. Fortunately, no children were on board at the time, however there is no word on the condition of the driver.

A second reported collision involved a prison bus and a pickup truck in Comanche County. Sadly, the driver of the pickup truck was killed. Apparently, the prison bus was transporting thirty-one inmates at the time of the crash. Twenty people were injured, and they were taken to various area hospitals, some by life flight.

These two incidents serve as a warning that buses can be involved in wrecks, and that those crashes can be deadly. It is therefore critical that buses be equipped with adequate safety equipment-this is specifically includes safety belts. Once the bus has those provided, they must be used by the passengers. Thus, the driver should enforce the use of the means to protect the safety of all on board. With properly trained drivers, and adequate equipment, buses can provide an efficient means to mass transport.
