Alarming stats associated with drunk driving accidents

Our Texas readers are well aware that drunk driving accidents are extremely common throughout the state, with many leading to serious injury and even death. With police doing their best to crack down on drinking and driving, some progress has been made in most states throughout the country. Even then, this remains a major problem.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving continues to compile statistics associated with drunk driving accidents, showing just how harmful this can be. Some of the most alarming stats are as follows:

— Every day in the United States, 28 people die in a drunk driving accident.

— In addition to the people who die in these types of accidents, every two minutes a person is injured in such an incident.

— Approximately 66 percent of people will be involved in a drunk driving related accident at some point in their life.

Speaking of Texas, here is another statistic shared by Mothers Against Drunk Driving:

“In 2012, 29.1 million people admitted to driving under the influence of alcohol – that’s more than the population of Texas.”

Drunk driving accidents can be stopped, but only if everybody avoids getting behind the wheel after they have been drinking. Unfortunately, it is impossible to guarantee that this will happen, as some people continue to make this mistake.

These statistics show that drunk driving remains a big problem, killing and injuring many people every year. Even if you are sober, you never know when somebody around you could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. If somebody is injured in such an accident, he or she may wish to seek legal advice.
