A Houston wrestling coach received a recall notice on his 2014 Chevy Silverado recently. Within an hour of receiving the General Motors/Chevrolet recall notice, his Chevy Silverado burst into flames. He is convinced the two are related, and the defect described in the recall matches the problems he encountered with his truck.
General Motors has issued approximately 370,000 recall letters for the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks. The Houston man said that his truck was traveling just fine until it just slowed down and all of the dash interior lights came on. When he got out of the vehicle, he noticed a small fire under the hood. According to the Silverado owner, the truck’s front and became ravished with flames within a minute. It burned to the point where the vehicle was totaled.
The General Motors recall indicates that there is a software malfunction that makes an idling truck heat up to levels that can start a fast-moving fire, melting plastic parts ultimately leads to the total destruction of the vehicle. According to the Houston Chronicle, vehicles affected include trucks equipped with a 4.3 liter or 5.3 liter engines. It is not appear that trucks with a 6.3 liter engine are part of the recall.
Owners of these trucks are encouraged to contact their local General Motors dealerships and have their vehicles fixed free of charge. But in the meantime, owners are being cautioned against allowing their trucks to idle. The fix takes less than an hour.
