A streak in Texas that needs to be broken

Usually when the statement, “an accident happens every day,” is used, it is more of a figure of speech than a literal statement. However, here in Texas, it is actually a statement of fact. Sadly, to be more accurate, the statement would have to include the word “fatal.”

Houston readers might be shocked to realize that the last time there was not a fatal car accident in the state of Texas was Nov. 7, 2000. Someone has died in a motor vehicle accident in the Lone Star State every day for over 13 years. It is believed to be the longest streak in the history of the state.

Law enforcement does not anticipate the streak ending anytime soon. However, law enforcement does want drivers to keep safety in mind while on the roadways. Not only should drivers avoid reckless behavior such as drinking and driving, texting while driving and other distracting activities while driving, they should also be aware of other drivers on the road that might not be as vigilant.

As long as the phrase “accidents will happen” remains a literal statement in Texas, those who are adversely affected by these accidents have a right to seek compensation for their injuries or losses caused by the careless behavior of others. Seeking the advice of a legal professional can help anyone who might choose to seek damages. This professional can help anyone who has suffered in injury or loss determine what rights to compensation he or she might have, such as those for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, emotional distress and other damages.
