Suspected intoxicated driver goes wrong way on freeway, kills 1

Many accidents can be prevented, and this is especially true for drunk driving accidents. Currently a Houston-area woman is facing serious charges after she drove the wrong way on a local freeway and caused an accident that killed one and injured another.

The Oct. 15 accident occurred when a woman drove onto the North Durham ramp in the wrong direction and entered Katy Freeway. The woman was driving westbound in the eastbound lane at a high rate of speed.

The woman slammed into a vehicle being driven by a man. He attempted to swerve out of the woman’s way to avoid a collision but was unsuccessful. A passenger in the vehicle, a 20-year-old woman, was injured and was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

After the initial crash between the two automobiles, a motorcycle slammed into the wrong-way driver’s vehicle. The male rider suffered a broken leg as a result of the accident and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The wrong-way driver was also injured and taken to a hospital for treatment of her minor injuries. After treatment, she was taken into custody under suspicion that she was intoxicated at the time of the accidents. She has been charged with intoxication manslaughter.

Both the family of the woman who was killed and the motorcycle rider who was injured could seek damages from the woman who allegedly caused the accident. The surviving family and the motorcyclist could pursue the woman for medical bills and pain and suffering, the family of the woman who was killed could seek compensation for final expenses, and the bike rider could seek reimbursement for lost wages that stemmed from the accident. An experienced legal professional can help anyone who finds themselves a victim of an accident determine what rights to compensation they might have.
