Series of wrecks on Highway 6

When you combine congested traffic and speed, you can sometimes end up with a disastrous situation. If people are not paying attention to cars that are trying to change lanes, or that are entering or exiting a freeway, a car accident can happen. Should that accident occurs during peak driving times, one accident can quickly turn into several accidents, or one huge one. Our Houston readers might be interested in reading about several accidents that occurred in rapid succession of each other on a particular stretch of Texas roadway.

People who were traveling on Highway 6 on Sept. 25 might have witnessed several accidents in close proximity of each other. The first accident happened around 7:30 a.m. and involved a truck trying to enter the freeway. In the process, the truck struck two cars that were waiting to exit the freeway. One car went across all lanes of traffic and came to rest in a neighborhood backyard. The driver of that vehicle was taken to the hospital for treatment of serious, though non-life-threatening injuries.

A second and third accident occurred not too far from the first. A car rear-ended a truck, then hit the truck from the first accident. A different car rear-ended another car. There were no injuries reported in either accident. The fourth accident involved a truck that was changing lanes and hit a car in the process. A passenger in the car was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-fatal injuries.

Chain-reaction accidents can be life-altering, but fortunately no one was seriously injured during these collisions. However, it does shed light on the idea that people need to be careful when driving on freeways with high speeds and numerous on- and off-ramps. Not paying careful attention could lead to serious injuries or death.

Those who are injured due to the recklessness or negligence of another may be able to pursue compensation through the civil court system. Families who have lost a loved in an accident may be able to file a wrongful death lawsuit against those responsible for their loss. While money cannot bring back their loved one, it can help with the family member’s final expenses and help provide some sort of closure.
