KTM North America Recalls Motorcycles Due to Fuel Leak, Fire and Crash Hazard

On Tuesday, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in cooperation with KTM North America, announced a voluntary recall of KTM Enduro motorcycles manufactured by KTM-Sportmotorcycle AG in 2012 and 2013. The recall was prompted by reports that the pre-formed fuel hose can develop small holes or cracks at the ends of the hose, allowing fuel to leak from the motorcycle. The fuel leak poses an extremely dangerous fire and crash hazard to the motorcycle rider as well as bystanders.

The recall covers several off-road and closed-course motorcycles, including seven 2013 models and one 2012 model. The recalled motorcycles were sold at authorized KTM dealers across the United States from October 2011 through September 2012. Model numbers included in the recall are: 2013 KTM Motorcycles - 250 XC-F, 250 XCF-W, 350 XC-F, 350 XCF-W, 450XC-F, 450 XC-W, 500 XC-W and MY 2012 KTM 350 XCF-W. Officials from KTM North America say that KTM has received 13 reports of fuel leaks in the affected models. However, according to KTM officials, no injuries have been reported in connection with the fuel hose defect.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission and KTM North America have instructed consumers to stop using the recalled KTM motorcycles immediately and contact a KTM authorized dealer to schedule a free repair. If consumers are unsure about whether or not their motorcycle is affected by the recall, the CPSC urges them to either contact KTM North America's consumer contact line or check with the closest KTM authorized dealer.
