Washington, D.C. - On March 7th, the HNBA joined other national partners in a rally and press conference to launch a bus trip to Selma, Alabama from where the groups participated in a historic recreation of the 1965 Selma to Montgomery, AL march led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

"As the National Voice of the Hispanic Legal Community, we believe that it is also our duty to address broader injustice, particularly when it affects the Latino community. For this reason we join in this march, which serves to highlight the ongoing battle against anti-immigrant laws, discriminatory law enforcement practices, and restrictions on voting, housing and employment rights of Latinos all over the United States," said Benny Agosto, Jr., HNBA National President. Mr. Agosto responded to media queries after the rallies, highlighting the importance of fighting unjust laws in the courts.

To that end, during the same week, HNBA signed on as one of the parties to the amici curiae brief in the case on SB1070 before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

About the Hispanic National Bar Association

The Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) is an incorporated, not-for-profit, national membership organization that represents the interests of the more than 100,000 Hispanic attorneys, judges, law professors, legal assistants, and law students in the United States and its territories. From the days of its founding four decades ago, the HNBA has acted as a force for positive change within the legal profession. It does so by encouraging Latino students to choose a career in the law and by prompting their advancement within the profession once they graduate and start practicing. Through a combination of issue advocacy, programmatic activities, networking events and educational conferences, the HNBA has helped generations of lawyers succeed.
