On January 10, 2012, President Barack Obama announced that longtime immigration reform advocate Cecilia Munoz would be joining the White House as director of the Domestic Policy Council.

Munoz is currently serving as Director of Intergovernmental Affairs at the White House and has been the main point of contact for the Hispanic community. Prior to her appointment, Munoz also worked for the National Council of La Raza, as Senior Vice President for the Office of Research, Advocacy and Legislation. In 2000, she was recognized for her work on civil rights and immigration by being named a MacArthur Fellow.

The appointment has been hailed as an inspired and wise choice by many, including the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA). "[Her] expertise on such a broad variety of issues, her passion, and commitment to our community are just a few of the things that make her a great asset to the administration" says HNBA President, Benny Agosto, Jr.

Agosto says "the community will continue to benefit from her commitment to justice and to improving conditions for the broader Latino community." As Domestic Policy Director, Munoz will deal with a variety of policy issues, including immigration, education and social programs.

The HNBA is an incorporated, not-for-profit, national membership organization that represents the interests of the more than 100,000 attorneys, judges, law professors, legal professionals, and law students of Hispanic descent in the United States and its territories.
