Houston Police Continue to Look For Suspect in Fatal Hit and Run

In the wee hours of the morning, a man in his thirties was attempting to run across a North Houston freeway died after he was hit by a car.

According to the Houston Police Department, the man had been in a store near the intersection of Sam Houston Parkway and the Northwest Freeway. After buying a video at the store, the man left the building just after 1:30 in the morning. Law enforcement officials believe that after leaving the store, he attempted to dart across the freeway. But as he dashed across U.S. 290, he was struck by a vehicle. Two additional vehicles, closely behind the first one, also ran into the man.

The second two cars stopped at the scene, but the first vehicle continued on. The 30-something man died at the scene of the hit-and-run accident.

Law enforcement officials closed the freeway and entrance and exit ramps from the Sam Houston Parkway following the hit and run. The freeway remained closed for over 3 hours while investigators examined the scene of the fatal accident and the Houston Fire Department hosed down the roadway.

The vehicle that fled the scene is believed to be silver. Investigators say that it should have significant front end damage. Authorities are continuing to look for the car, but unfortunately, as noted previously on this blog, hit and run accidents in Houston are all too common and drivers often never found.

Authorities encourage anyone that may have knowledge regarding the incident to contact the HPD Hit and Run Unit at 713-247-4065.
