This post is part three in a series on fatal pedestrian accidents in Houston.
In a national survey of the most dangerous metropolitan areas for pedestrians, the Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown area ranked number nine on the list.
When fatalities result from auto-pedestrian accidents, the exact circumstances of each accident vary, but several common patterns have emerged.
Houston city records show that fatal pedestrian accidents most often occur when pedestrians:
- Attempted to cross a freeway in Houston
- Were jaywalking
- Crossed a street against a traffic signal
- Crossed a private parking lot
- Walked in front of driveways
