Former HNBA President Confirmed as Justice

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate a good friend of mine, Jimmie Reyna, on his recent appointment to the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. On April 4th, the Senate confirmed Jimmie by a vote of 86-0, making him the first Latino to occupy the position of Circuit Judge on that court.

Originally from Clovis, New Mexico, Jimmie began a life of hard work at the University of Rochester before earning his J.D. at The University of New Mexico. After graduation, Jimmie practiced in New Mexico before moving his family to the Washington, D.C. area. From there, Jimmie dedicated almost three decades to International Trade and Customs law, which has paved the way for his rise to the position of partner at the D.C. office of Williams Mullen, and director of that firm’s International Trade and Customs Practice Group. He also has a long history of service and leadership within the legal community, serving in several positions at the American Bar Association, and as National President of the Hispanic National Bar Association.

On September 3rd, I will be sworn in as National President of HNBA. It is my great honor to follow in the footsteps of such a great man and great attorney as Jimmie Reyna. I applaud the United States Senate for his confirmation, because I know he will continue a lifetime of leadership and dedication as a Circuit Judge, and I wish him all the best.
