Warning - Infant Slings Are Causing Deaths

Photo of Brant Stogner

On March 24, 2010, over one million infant slings were recalled due to the risk of suffocating the babies. Infantino "SlingRider" and "Wendy Bellisimo" infant slings are reportedly to blame for causing three deaths in infants in 2009. According the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the slings present a high risk of suffocation for infants traveling in the sling that are less than four months old. The Commission cited to a 2009 death of a three-month-old infant in Cincinnati. The CPSC is still investigating to determine the full extent of the damage that these slings have caused to consumers and their infants.

The Infantino SlingRiders were sold at Wal-Mart, Target, BJ's Wholesale, Babies R Us, and various other children's stores. The Wendy Bellisimo slings were sold exclusively at Babies R Us. The U.S. CPSC and Infantino, LLC have announced a free replacement program for the recalled Infantino "SlingRider" and "Wendy Bellissimo" infant slings. Consumers are warned not to attempt to fix the slings on their own; but rather, to stop using the slings immediately and contact Infantino to receive a free replacement sling.

If you have one of these slings, you should stop using it now and contact Infantino at (866) 860-1361 or visit the website at If you have an infant that has either suffered a suffocation injury or death while being transported in one of these slings, you need to contact an attorney immediately that is familiar with handling product defects. The lawyers at Abraham Watkins have the experience and resources to successfully pursue product defect cases, provide free initial consultations, and handle most cases on a contingency fee basis.
