On Friday, March 5, 2010, Jay Jackson, one of the attorneys with ABRAHAM, WATKINS, NICHOLS, SORRELS, AGOSTO & FRIEND, was invited to explain personal injury law to high school students at Tomball Senior High School.
Mr. Jackson talked with the Business Law class taught by Ms. Karen Hill. Mr. Jackson generally described for students the basic areas of the law, after which he provided a detailed introduction for them to personal injury and wrongful death cases.
In the fast-paced presentation, filled with examples from real cases, Mr. Jackson presented various types of personal injury cases, such as motor vehicle collisions, medical malpractice, and premises liability, and explained the basic issues of personal injury cases. The students learned about legal concepts like "proximate cause," as well as practical matters related to insurance. The students further were exposed to current issues, including damages caps, and attorneys' fee agreements. At the end of the discussion, there was an additional time for questions and answers, followed by a few closing words of encouragement for the students from Mr. Jackson as they move forward with their lives.
Mr. Jackson is a member of the Houston Bar Association, and he volunteers for the Speakers' Bureau. That is a program of the HBA which provides speakers upon request to educate the public about the law. Both the HBA and ABRAHAM, WATKINS are passionately committed to educating the public about the system of justice in America.
